J. Douglas Peters Garners Industry's Top Award February 2008
J. Douglas Peters, president of Peters' Heat Treating, Inc. with plants in Meadville and Erie has been named the recipient of The Heritage Award, the highest award given by the Metal Treating Institute, an international trade association representing the corporate heat treating industry. The award is presented in recognition of an individual whose determination and leadership in advancing the commercial heat treating industry, through commitment of quality and excellence, has enhanced the image of the Institute and its members. The honor came at the group's recent annual meeting in Chicago.
The Metal Treating Institute, headquartered in Jacksonville Beach, FL has over 300 company members throughout North and South America, Europe, Asia, South Africa and Australia.
Peters had previously served in all elected offices of the Institute and chaired several national committees. He is also a past recipient of the organization's President's Award, given to the most outstanding volunteer throughout the year.
He is very active in the NW Pennsylvania Chapter of the National Tooling and Machining Association and was the organization's first Associate Member to be elected President. He was also instrumental in the founding of the local tooling museum.
Peters graduated from Penn State University with a degree in business, specializing in the insurance field. While there, he did work part time at a tool and die shop. He started Peters' Heat Treat with wife Jackie in 1979.
PHT Installs a Patented "State of the Art" Controlled Gas Nitriding System August 2007
Earlier this year, PHT opened a satellite facility at 1710 Greengarden Road in Erie, PA. This new installation includes a Nitreg Controlled Gas nitriding System that offers a work zone that measures 60.0" in diameter by 138.0" in height, with a weight capacity of 20,000 pounds. The unique size of this new furnace allows Peters' to offer price advantages to our new and existing customers. This new installation has brought the patented Nitreg Gas Nitriding Technology to North Western, PA.
Nitreg Computer Controlled Gas Nitriding improves fatigue strength and enhances resistance to wear and corrosion. It is a zero distortion process that results in a finished product precisely matched to the original dimensions and tolerances and requiring no further finishing work. This new system meets AMS Spec 2759/10A for Controlled Gas Nitriding.
The unique location of the Greengarden facility (just off Route 90 and Interstate 79) provides convenient access from Pittsburgh, PA, Cleveland, OH, and Buffalo, NY. Peters' Heat Treating, Inc now offers pick-up and delivery services throughout this three city area. Blade Division
PHT has recently expanded into the custom blade industry. We have heat treated several blades for the custom knife industry, as well as factory made knives. Brad and Linda Stallsmith have attended custom trade shows in Orlando, FL, Baltimore, MD, NYC, and "The Blade" show in Atlanta in June.
